Maury NJROTC is dedicated to developing leadership, discipline, and a strong sense of community among our cadets. Naval Science 1 (NS1)

In Year 1, commonly known as the freshman year, cadets embark on an educational journey that encompasses various crucial areas. They explore military history to understand the evolution of armed forces and key historical events. Survival training equips them with essential skills for navigating challenging environments, while a strong focus on physical fitness and health education promotes overall well-being and resilience. Throughout this foundational year, cadets also engage in activities that foster essential leadership and followership skills, preparing them for future challenges in their military careers and personal development.

Naval Science 2 (NS2)

In the sophomore year (Year 2 or NS2), cadets expand their skill set by focusing on practical and theoretical knowledge essential for their development. They engage in land navigation and seamanship, gaining hands-on experience vital for effective maritime operations. As part of their training, cadets complete the CT boating safety course, emphasizing safety protocols for operating vessels. The curriculum also covers maritime geography and meteorology, providing insights into the environmental factors that influence navigation. Additionally, cadets hone their advanced leadership and communication skills, preparing them for future challenges in their military careers and fostering their ability to lead and collaborate in diverse settings.

Naval Science 3 (NS3)

In the junior year (Year 3 or NS3), cadets immerse themselves in aviation fundamentals, beginning with **flight simulation** exercises before advancing to real flight experiences. This progression allows them to directly apply what they learn in the classroom. In addition to aviation training, cadets develop **advanced citizenship** and **leadership skills**, which are essential for their personal and professional growth. They also explore the basics of **naval engineering**, gaining valuable insights into the technical aspects of naval operations. Moreover, cadets focus on event management, learning how to **lead and coordinate activities**, which fosters their organizational skills and teamwork abilities.

Naval Science 4 (NS4)

In the senior year (Year 4 or NS4), cadets assume leadership roles within the unit, taking charge of planning and executing various events and activities. This hands-on experience not only allows them to apply their leadership skills but also to mentor junior cadets assigned to them. Beyond their responsibilities in leadership, cadets focus on acquiring essential life skills, such as **personal financial management**, **car buying**, and successfully transitioning from high school to the next phase of their lives. They also engage in **public speaking** and explore **ethics**, equipping them with the tools necessary to navigate both personal and professional challenges in the future.
